A 5-Step Plan To Creating Or Enhancing Your Lead Funnels

Looking start or build your business? You’d better become a master of the sales funnel, also referred to as lead funnels. If you don’t have effective ones, you could be missing out on potential sales.

How can you create or improve your funnel pages? Here's a 5-step plan.

1. Create a Dynamic Landing Page

We all know first impressions matter. If someone clicks on your link – whether it’s in an email, social media post, or Google ad – they should be directed to a landing page. This is your first and most important opportunity to get them to move from awareness to interest.

Pro tips for landing pages:

  • Ensure the landing page is visually pleasing and easy to read
  • The headline should match the message of the ad
  • Have a strong call-to-action (CTA)
  • Write copy that is targeted and focused
  • Provide a clear description of your product/service/company
  • Capture contact info

NOTE: Landing pages are not “sales” pages. They are meant to capture contact info and hopefully get potential customers to the next phase.

2. Offer a Lead Magnet

A lead magnet is something you give away in exchange for a person’s contact information. A lead magnet should be something your customers want. It shouldn't cost you a lot to produce or send, either.

Examples of lead magnets:

  • Checklist
  • Cheatsheet/guidelines (e.g. 50 writing hacks for blogs and sales pages)
  • Email template
  • Downloadable swipe files
  • Web app
  • Resource list
  • Calendar/Planner/Worksheet
  • Printable sheets/graphics

These are only examples of lead magnets. Get creative and come up with ideas that will appeal to your target customer.

3. Use CRM Software

Sales funnel software is essential if you want to convert leads into sales. CRM (customer relation management) software helps you organize leads. It also analyzes where clicks originated (whether an email, social media, Google ad, or digital ad), so you know which medium is generating the best leads.

The best software should manage leads, track communications, and personalize your engagement with leads throughout the process. 

4. Create Good Content

Want to generate clicks? Practice good content marketing. In other words, create content that will help search engines find you. Your content should contain keywords relating to search terms or phrases that your customers are likely to use.

Blogs are still a great way to publish content on a regular basis. Be smart about them, however. Avoid being too “salesy”, and instead, be helpful. Answer a need, become a resource, or provide insight on a particular topic related to your product, service or expertise.

5. Create a Drip Campaign

The best way to get a potential customer through a sales funnel is through something called a drip campaign. It’s essentially a series of emails sent over time.

One should be sent immediately after someone submits his/her contact information. This is a “welcome” email. You then send 3-4 additional emails over a period of several weeks that slowly draw that customer through to the funnel.

Most email programs give you the ability to create drip campaigns and then schedule them to go out automatically.
